Description
Zimbabwe basket is one of the most finely woven and highly patterned in Africa. The contrasting light and dark tones are produced by either boiling the ilala palm fibers to whiten them, or dying them with the common munyii roots. The women elders are often seen sitting on a mat in the village weaving their baskets with a tin of water to soften the fibers while they work. This fine craft is continued today only by the elder women of the tribe. In pretty good used condition; attached descriptive card has some minor wear. Basket measures 9 1/3” diameter x 3” high. Will ship with USPS First Class Mail. Thank you ~
