Our story
How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.

Having trouble opening your birdhouse? The entire front face of our Winter Roost Box swivels out for easy seasonal cleaning or simple check-ins. Before opening, make sure that any bird residents have moved on before tampering with the inside.

Slate Predator Guard
Birds need a safe place to hide away during the wintertime. To make sure that no other predator can get in, this Wakefield birdhouse features a slate predator guard that prevents squirrels or other predators from chewing away the wooden entrance hole.
What's the Difference Between a Roosting Box and a Birdhouse?
More spacious - While birdhouses have room for one mother bird and her hatchlings, roosting boxes have space for multiple birds at one time.
Not intended for nest building - Roosting boxes provide shelter from predators, low temperatures, and poor weather for multiple birds at once.
Lower entrance hole - To keep the box warm for birds inside, the lower access point prevents heat from escaping the roosting box as easily as it would in a typical birdhouse.
Interior perches - Since roosting boxes intend to house more than one bird, perches create room for birds to spread out a little bit without being smothered.
Slate guard - Other animals may want to find a way into the roosting box! To prevent this, a slate guard reinforces the entrance so that no other animal can chew the opening any larger.
