Unusual 1860s Tintype Photo - Mourning?

What an unusual pose! Having a bad day, or possibly in mourning?
My photo, taken with my cell phone, is probably slightly blurred, but the original is fine.
Original tintype in excellent condition, measuring 1 3/4” tall by 1 1/2” wide.
