Description

In 1876 ex-Confederate South Carolina veterans joined in a rebellion to overthrow the reconstruction regime that had caused "more destruction than the entire four years of war."  They called themselves the Red Shirts.  Almost overnight, from every corner of South Carolina, one hundred thousand red shirts were sewn, dyed and distributed to a waiting "army."  The Red Shirts were successful in overturning the reconstruction government and installing ex-Confederate General Wade Hampton in the Governor's Office and converted the politics of the state government to Democrat.   The unidentified image offered tonight exhibits a young man with a very long clay pipe and an 1816 conversion musket wearing the red shirt.  There is a nearly identical shirt on exhibit at the Museum and Library of Confederate History in Greenville, SC.  I've attached a pic of their article about the Red Shirts.  I obtained this nearly 25 years ago from a highly reputable dealer (name upon request) and his price code is still in the back of the case.  Absolutely SATISFACTION GUARANTEED.  I am so confident in the strength of this artifact that I will start it at with no reserve!
