RARE DOUBLE WALLED STERLING SILVER ALLOY PENZEL MULLER CLARI-MET CLARINET 1910

RARE DOUBLE WALLED PENZEL MULLER CLARIMET STERLING SILVER ALLOY CLARINET.
Comes with the original Penzel Muller mouthpiece. The clarinet must have been in a stateroom of a boat in Plymouth, MA and went first class. Look at the decal on the case. Maybe it was one of the musicians on board the boat? The original case is there but the end is missing, it needs restored but should stay with the instrument for the history. The corks need lubed and the pads may need replaced. So I am selling this as is for complete restoration.
The double-walled Penzel-Mueller Clari-Met,
was said to be preferred by principal clarinetists of leading orchestras, and declared to be the best clarinet ever made--completing the transition from wood to metal. The CLARI-MET was certainly far better than any single wall metal clarinet as it's quality rivaled wood and dared to even claim wood obsolete. Around 1910 Penzel-Mueller (NY) started making the double-walled Clari-Met line to be offered at a price of 0-0, and was perhaps the most expensive clarinet available at the time. According to the manufacturer, Penzel Muller of New York the Clari-Met, made of a special alloy that was almost sterling was destined to make wooden clarinets obsolete. By the mid 1920s there was little interest in the very complicated manufacturing process to produce a clarinet that cost half as much as an
