This woven very good condition has some wear  on ends SHOWS IT'S AGE AND PATINA. EXCELLENT DECORATIVE PIECE! leather lanyards are used to securely fasten the lid onto its base.
It was made to carry Injera, a staple food of most Ethiopians, to the field. Injera is made with an endemic grain, found only in Ethiopia,
Baskets play a major role in Ethiopian culture and society and are seen as functional, decorative, and sacred items throughout the country
made only by the Harari  people in the city , usually old women and widows. Makes a great basket!
