ARTIFACT:
Fabulous 1890’s San Francisco Jockey Club member lapel badge in silver and enameled gold by Shreve & Co. and named to “R. VAN BRANT”. 1896 Goodwin’s Official Annual Turf Guide shows R. Van Brant as the owner of a winning horse “Cabrillo”, as do other newspapers/etc. from the late 1890’s. The front of the lapel stud shows a jockey riding an open stride, galloping horse in gold high relief detail against a blue enameled background. The outer edge of the badge is white enamel and reads: “SAN FRANCISCO JOCKEY CLUB MEMBER”.
